Part 4 - Nimbasa City
Nimbasa City
Items: Vs. Recorder, Thunderstone, Soothe Bell, Sun Stone, Prop Case, TM49 (Echoed Voice), Macho Brace
Welcome to Nimbasa City, where soon you will be able to earn your fourth gym badge (and as I am doing this Walkthrough, I only have 3 Pokemon on me....-_-). While I complain about not catching more Pokemon, head to the Pokemon Center (which you need to head left - past the Battle Subway Station) and heal up. You'll notice three people you passed at the Battle Subway Station. Interact with Rosa/Nate (dependant on the gender you choose at the start of the game), she will request you to team up with him/her for a Double Battle with the Subway Bosses Ingo and Emmet. Say yes to initiate the battle.
SUBWAY BOSS BATTLE: INGO AND EMMET (Double Battle)
INGO:
Boldore - Level 26
EMMET:
Gurdurr - Level 26
Prize Money: 5200
Your partner will counter with an evolved-starter Pokemon that is the type weaker than your starter at Level 25 (for example, if you started the game with Oshawott, your partner will have Pignite and so on). As for the battle, Boldore has many weaknesses because of it just being a Rock-type. One of you SHOULD have a Water or a Grass type just by having no combination starter Pokemon that you do not have an advantage on. Beat up Boldore first because there are many type weakness against it therefore the easiest to take out, then gang up on Gurdurr and take it out - preferably with Flying-type moves. These levels are at least 3 levels up than the highest you have faced thus far, so be on alert if you somehow cannot take them down in a turn or two.
Ingo and Emmet will leave back to the Subway Station. Rosa/Nate will give you a Vs. Recorder as thanks. (S)he will leave into the Station as well.
Pass the Center to the left and attempt to enter the Battle Institute only to hear that you need to be Champion to enter. A lady will block the door until then.
Go north of the Center and take the next left, enter the second building on the left and head to the second floor. Talk to the old lady and - if your lead Pokemon is friendly enough towards you - you will be handed a Soothe Bell - which is good for the holder to be even more friendly to you. That will help to make certain Pokemon evolve.
Head into the building next to it and head to the second floor. Talk to the boy in the middle to be handed a Sun Stone.
Exit the building and head north to the two stadiums. The Small Court is on the left near the gate and the Big Stadium is directly north from the Pokemon Center. In each stadium (when they are not off-limits to games being held there), you can battle trainers every day in those two places and you can also win healing items if you defeat the trainers inside in a Pokemon Battle. It is a great place to train before your upcoming Gym Battle and some free healing items for the road. At this point it is just Potions; but hey why not?
Next to those two places is the Musical Theater, where you can participate in Pokemon Musicals. It is a nice little entertainment gig for both Black 2 & White 2 like Black & White was before it. You don't win prize money or experience points for your Pokemon, but if you want to take your mind off for a little bit, go inside.
The moment you are inside you are placed into auto-mode. The owner will come up, talk to you, and be handed a Prop Case. You will be asked to pick a Pokemon from your party to participate in a dress up. Pick one of your choosing. You will be taken to a different screen to dress up your Pokemon and be shown how to dress it up. Dress the Pokemon up until you are satisfied with your dress. The owner will let you go.
Head to the clerk in the middle and participate in a Musical. There are four shows you can choose to participate in. No matter the choice it is basically the same, just different themes. Dress up your Pokemon. When you are ready, the owner will lead you to the stage to perform. You do not have to do anything but watch the performance - your Pokemon will be positioned in the right-center. You will be asked afterward if you want a photo too be displayed in the Theater. Either say yes or no. If yes, it will be displayed on the second floor.
Before you leave the place for good, go to the lady next to the Vending Machines on the right. Talk to her and receive TM49 (Echoed Voice).
Heal up - if you want to the challenge the Gym, then skip Route 16 part and come back to it later to go ahead to the next Gym part of the Walkthrough. If you want to train some more before challenging the Gym, head out the gate eastward to Route 16. In either case, inside the gate, talk to the man near the electronic sign and he'll give you a Macho Brace. Go out towards Route 16.
Route 16
Wild Pokemon: Minccino, Solosis, Trubbish, Cinccino*, Emolga*, Audino*, Gothita (B2), Liepard (W2)
Trainers Pokemon: Depot Agent (Drilbur LV25), Cyclist (Tranquill LV25), Backers (Double Battle - Scraggy LV24 x2), Cyclist (Whirlipede LV25), Backpacker (Liepard LV25), Backpacker (Watchog LV25)
Items: TinyMushroom, Heal Ball, Fresh Water, TM66 (Payback)
This is really the first point where you need to use HM moves since obtaining them in normal gameplay. You will need Cut to reach an item, Strength if you want to train in the darker grassy area.
Head eastward along the path, battling trainers if you come across them. Head north toward the first grassy area you come across up until you reach a darken area that will signify an entrance. That is the Lostlorn Forest; enter.
Lostlorn Forest
Wild Pokemon: Combee***, Roselia, Swadloon, Venipede, Pinsir (DG / HG), Whirlipede (DG), Audino*, Emolga*, Leavanny* (HG), Panpour*, Pansage*, Pansear*, Roserade*, Vespiquen*, Lilligant* (W2), Whimsicott* (B2), Heracross (HG)
Trainers Pokemon: Pokemon Breeder^ (Tranquill LV24, Liepard LV24), Pokemon Ranger (Trubbish LV26), Pokemon Ranger (Emolga LV26)
Items: Ultra Ball, TM95 (Snarl), Net Ball, Pecha Berry, Cheri Berry, Leaf Stone
^ - This trainer will battle you each time you enter the Lostlorn Forest
Note: *** = Pokemon can be found in the normal grass and in a Hidden Grotto along the Route. HG = Pokemon can only be found in the Hidden Grotto unless another note says it can be found elsewhere.
Go through the grassy area to find a clearing. Go to the northwest to find a Backpacker facing a tree stump. Talk to him and he will ask if you know the Pokemon Zoroark. Answer yes to have him continue talking about the event held in this forest two years ago. He will hand you TM95 (Snarl). Then he will walk a few steps before he (GASP!) turns into Zoroark. Zoroark will run off without you being able to battle it.
Go eastward from that spot until you notice two trees that look together. There is a narrow path there. Engage in the trees to enter the narrow path. This is called a Hidden Grotto. There are several of these throughout the Unova region and this is the first one you have come across. There will either be an item or a Wild Pokemon in each one of the Grottoes each day. Exit the Grotto and pick up the Net Ball that is in plain sight. After you are done here (battling all the trainers and finding all the items - hidden or not - of course), exit Lostlorn Forest. There is an area that you cannot reach until you obtain the Waterfall HM.
Route 16
Go back to the paved path and then use Strength to push the boulder into the hole so you can enter the second area. Battle the trainer and collect the items, including TM66 (Payback) along a narrow alley-way long the fence. You can try to exit eastward towards the Marvelous Bridge but the elevator is broken. You won't be able to exit eastward until after defeating the Elite Four. Although talk to the man next to the vending machine at the gate and because he got a Fresh Water for free, he'll give it to you.
Go back to Nimbasa City, heal up, then head to the Amusement Park where the Gym is located.
Nimbasa Gym + Amusement Park
Trainers Pokemon: Rich Boy (Blitzle LV24), Lady (Flaaffy LV24), Beauty (Flaaffy LV24), Beauty (Elekid LV27, Flaaffy LV27), Beauty (Flaaffy LV27, Blitzle LV27), Beauty (Blitzle LV27, Elekid LV27)
Items: Fresh Water, Dropped Item, Revive, Parlyz Heal (x2), TM72 (Volt Switch)
When you first enter, go down your first chance where the flower bed is and picked up the "Dropped Item". The "Dropped Item" is an Xtransceiver belonging to someone else. It will immediately call you. It will only speak in audio instead of picture because the owner of the Xtransceiver you found is using an older version. The owner will claim the name "Yancy/Curtis" even though the person attempted to say another name. (S)he'll hang up.
At the Ferris Wheel, talk to the Blonde-girl and she will ask if you want to Battle, accept it to battle her - who is quite rude frankly. After the battle, she will wide the Ferris Wheel with you. The camera pans to a 3D picture and - while still being rude - the pair of you ride the Ferris Wheel. She reveals that she is being targeted by an organization but will not reveal much more than that.
If you played Black or White Version before, then the location of the Gym is not where you think it is. It moved to the other side of the Ferris Wheel. You will see it is blocked (again) by your Gym Guide will send you back to her old gym - the Roller Coaster ride.
The old gym still has the same puzzle as before, where you must ride the Roller Coaster to reach the back of the place. Here's how to get back there:
First, hop in the car right in front of the old Gym Guide, hop off, follow the path and hit the switch which will change the path of the Roller Coaster, hop on, hop off, follow the path and hit the green switch, try to hop on the green car, battle the trainer, hop on, hop off, hit the purple button, hop on the brown car, battle the trainer, hop on, hop off.
Talk to the lady there and she'll inform you that Elesa - the Gym Leader - has went back to the gym (rolls eyes). She will reward you with a Parlyz Heal for making it back there. Hit the red button, hop on that car then off and exit the gym. Heal up if need be, then enter back into Gym.
Upon entering the gym (and a Catwalk beat to go along with it), you will be stopped by the Guide, he will hand you your obligatory Fresh Water. He will note this is an Electric-type gym, so Ground-type moves will work wonders - except on Emolga (as you may have found out on Route 16) due to its part Flying-type. He will tell you to defeat the trainers along the Catwalk in order to reach Elesa. Approach the dim light to battle the first trainer - who will be spotlighted and more music will be added. She will do a spin and walk back on the Catwalk. Walk up (without spinning, please) and battle the second trainer - and more music and now singing will be added. Walk up and battle the third and last trainer. After defeating her, the camera will pan to Elesa with all the spotlights on her and a TV behind it and the figurine of the Gym Badge on both sides of the screen - and the now full-fledged music will play an upbeat version of the so familiar Gym Music. Walk up and challenge the electric-style model and Gym Leader Elesa...
GYM LEADER BATTLE: ELESA
Emolga - Level 28
Flaaffy - Level 28
Zebstrika - Level 30
Prize Money: 3600
She will lead off with Emolga and she likes to use Volt Switch quite a bit, so don't be surprised if you have to finish out with Emolga. The Magnemite - for the third Gym Battle in a row - may serve useful because it is an electric-type itself therefore can withstand the electric attacks Elesa will use. Plus because of the combo Electric/Flying-type Emolga is, Electric-type moves will do normal damage, so Magnemite with its defense should be your Pokemon of choice against Emolga and should lead off with it. Be aware of Volt Switch because it can change to any of the two Pokemon she has at her disposal. Her Flaaffy is strong but nothing special. Her Zebstrika is something to watch out for. It has Flame Charge - a Fire-type move, so the Grass-types you might use and the Magnemite/Magneton since it's a Steel-type will be very vulnerable to it. Ground-types is your best bet by a mile to get rid of Zebstrika. If you don't have a Ground-type Pokemon, you could be in for a long battle.
Defeating Elesa will earn you a picture on TV......ok and the Bolt Badge, which comes with whistles and applause. With the Bolt Badge, all Pokemon up to Level 50 will obey you without problems. Elesa will also give you TM72 (Volt Switch) as well.
Try to leave the Gym only to be stopped halfway there by Elesa who will give you a proper Catwalk escort out of the Gym. Now heal up and attempt to exit westward to Route 5.
Nimbasa City
Trainers Pokemon: Team Plasma Grunt (Trubbish LV27), Team Plasma Grunt (Watchog LV27)
Yes, Hugh and Team Plasma are blocking the way out. Hugh talks his way onto a 4-on-1 gang up of a Pokemon Battle, so you got to clean up his mess. Talk to the Grunt to battle him and then another back-to-back. They reveal that they have a Super Weapon that they are trying to create and have a plan much like two years ago to take over Unova. They leave.
Hugh then talks about why he is chasing after Team Plasma the way he is doing so and the reason behind him wanting to get stronger. Five years ago, his sister's Purrloin which was a present by their parents was stolen by Team Plasma. Hugh will heal your team to prevent walking the 15 steps it took back to the Center to do the same thing. Hugh will leave back into the City, exit westward to Route 5 toward the next city that is Driftveil City.
Route 5
Wild Pokemon: Liepard***, Minccino***, Trubbish, Audino*, Cinccino*, Emolga*, Gothita (B2), Solosis (W2), Foongus (HG)
Trainers Pokemon: Artist (Sigilyph LV25), Pokemon Ranger (Budew LV25, Roselia LV25), Baker (Sunkern LV24, Combee LV24), Musician^ (Maractus LV25), Backers (Double Battle - Minccino LV24 x2), Dancer (Scraggy LV25), Motorcyclist (Triple Battle (W2) / Rotation Battle (B2) - Sigilyph LV26, Tirtouga LV26, Archen LV26)
Items: HM02 (Fly), Hyper Potion, Super Repel, Cheri Berry, Electric Guitar (Prop), Hyper Potion
^ - will hand over a Electric Guitar for the Prop Case when you defeat him in battle. Must have a Prop Case to battle the Musician.
Try to go 5 steps before you are stopped by Bianca once again. She will promptly give you HM02 (Fly). She will then ask about the Hidden Grottoes. Answer no and she will explain what they are. She then hears something and heads north toward the grassy area and then eastward. Bianca will stop right in-front of what appears to be two tress together. She figures out that she is standing right in-front of the Hidden Grotto. The pair of you go through the narrow path to find a Pokemon. Bianca will then leave you to battle the Wild Pokemon. Exit the Hidden Grotto and back onto Route 5.
Enter the trailer and talk to the maid inside. If you have any items that will help her cook something, sell them to her. Any Berry, Mushroom, and even Rare Candy, anything that is edible is sellable. The Casteliacones you bought eariler can be sold for 2,000 there. That is a 1,900 margin of profit right there because you bought them at 100 each. Sell as many as you want, but save some as they are a cheap way to get a Full Heal instead of buying an actual Full Heal for 600 at a Mart.
The lady in the clearing you saw when you entered the Route sells Berries each day at 200. You will get 5 of either Pomeg, Kelpsy, Qualot, Hondew or Grepa Berries. They will change each day so make sure to come back.
Battle all the trainers on Route 5 and find all the items before you reach Motorcyclist Charles who has a crowd gathered. Prompt the Motorcyclist for a new kind of battle. If you are playing White 2, it will be a Triple Battle (basically a 3-on-3 battle). If you are playing Black 2, it will be a Rotation Battle. A Triple Battle is basically an expansion of a Double Battle and the rules on which Pokemon you can attack changes a little bit based on the position of your Pokemon. A Rotation Battle is different. Your leadoff will be the first Pokemon (obviously) that will go into battle, but the 2nd and 3rd Pokemon after your leadoff in the order will also be in the battle. You can choose which of the 3 Pokemon you want to attack with but be aware that the attacker will also be exposed to an attack. Your opponent can also choose which to attack, making these battles very interesting and can turn the tide of a battle in an instant. Defeat him so that he'll leave and you can have access to the Driftveil Drawbridge. Everybody else will leave as well. Advance onto the Driftveil Drawbridge.
Driftveil Drawbridge
Wild Pokemon: Ducklett
The wild Pokemon only exist if you come across a "Feather Shadow" while crossing the bridge. The Feather Shadow also contains wings of either a Clever, Genius, Pretty, Health, Muscle, Resist or Swift Wing. Each one except for Pretty Wing will raise a stat on one of your Pokemon. Pretty Wings can be sold at Marts for 100 each. Cross the bridge to reach Driftveil City...and along to Part 5.
