Part 1 - The Beginning
At the beginning of the game, you will be greeted by Professor Juniper. You will get to choose if you want to be a boy or a girl (preferably the gender that you are as) as well as choosing your name and your rival's name. (Your rival's name is Hugh by default when you first see it, so I will refer to him as "Hugh") There is a blacklist installed in the game, so nothing basically that will use insulting words can be used as a name.
Aspertia City
Items: Running Shoes, Town Map, Potion, Poke Ball (x10), Pokedex
After going through the traditional start-up scene, you will have a flyover of your home town in Aspertia City, eventually ending at your house. Your mom will receive a call from Juniper. She will ask your mom a favor in asking her child (which is you) in handing you a Pokedex. She ends the call saying Bianca in a "Big Green Hat" will come over to hand the Pokedex along with a Starter Pokemon.
Your mom will walk into the house and call you down. You are now in control of your character so head in the direction to your mom until your mom walks up to you. She'll ask if you want a Pokemon (Answer "Yes" obviously). She will then ask if you know what a Pokedex is. Answer Yes to avoid the explanation. If you are really a newcomer or just like the comical effect that comes in answering "no", she will explain what a Pokedex is. Finally she will ask if you want the Pokedex - answer "Yes" again. Your mom will task you into finding Bianca. She will lastly ask if you have your "Xtransreciver", answer yes once more.
Head outside and turn the corner to find your rival Hugh along with his sister (who is nameless). Hugh says he is bored as there are no other trainers besides him in town - as he already has a Pokemon. Your rival finds out that you are about to get your Pokemon from Bianca. Hugh is excited about it and tags along with you to find Bianca. Hugh tells his sister to head on home after she tells you to take good care of the Pokemon you are about to receive. Hugh will follow you as you search for Bianca.
Head north and hang a left right before the passage way out to Route 19, go up the stairs and find Bianca at the top. Hugh will wait on you to get your Pokemon and Pokedex. Go up to the Bianca who is adoring the scenery. She will introduce herself and ask if you know someone (who is you). Answer Yes - by answering no you will not get anywhere. Bianca will realize you are that person she was looking for. She will proceed to ask if you will help complete the Pokedex - answer yes. You will have to engage with her again and then pick your starter Pokemon.
Your Pokemon choices are:
Snivy - a Grass-Type Pokemon
Tepig - a Fire-Type Pokemon
Oshawott - a Water-Type Pokemon
You are free to choose which one you want, but you cannot obtain the other two unless done via a trade by another person or by transferring from Black and White Versions - which you cannot do until later.
You will be able to nickname the Pokemon right away if you so choose. She will also hand you your Pokedex. After some more dialogue, head back downstairs to Hugh who will ask Bianca for a Pokedex of his own (and does get one). Bianca offers that you and Hugh have a Pokemon Battle. Engage with Hugh to start the battle.
RIVAL BATTLE 1:
If you choose Snivy: - Tepig - Level 5
If you choose Tepig: - Oshawott - Level 5
If you choose Oshawott - Snivy - Level 5
Prize Money: 500
Your rival will have the starter Pokemon that has a type-advantage over yours that he "raised from an egg." The VS. screen will pop up and your first battle will begin. At this juncture, neither one will have a move of its type. Tackle/Scratch and Tail Whip/Growl are all that they know. Simply use your damaging attack over and over until you knock it out. Your Pokemon should raise a level and be almost to Level 7 if you defeat Hugh.
Hugh will talk a bit then leave. Bianca will talk to you and will escort you to the Pokemon Center. The screen blacks out and back in to show the Pokemon Center (the building with the red roof you passed by earlier). The two of you go inside. Bianca shows you around the Center (which will heal your Pokemon that just battled once you approach the table) with Nurse Joy, the PC to the left and the Poke Mart on the right (at this point, all you can buy for now are Poke Balls and Potions). After showing you around, Bianca will give you 10 Poke Balls and will tell you to follow her so she can show you how (as if you did not already know but....). Head out of the Center.
Upon exiting the Center, your mom and Hugh's sister will come out and talk. She will hand you the Running Shoes (which can be activated by pressing the "B" button). Hugh's sister will hand you the Town Map and asks you to hand Hugh one as well. Bianca says to follow her to Route 19, once you are free to go, head out north to Route 19.
In the passageway to Route 19, you will be stopped by the guard, assuming you are going out by yourself without a Pokemon, but realizes that you are with your starter. As a going-away gift, she will hand you a Potion. Continue north.
Route 19
**Note: Unless indicated otherwise, the Wild Pokemon found in the Grass is for all seasons. I will start listing Pokemon found in the water once Surf is obtained and Pokemon by fishing means once the Super Rod is obtained. Wild Pokemon can be found dependent on the current season. W - Winter, SP - Spring, SU - Summer, A - Autumn will be their short terms. If it is in a rustling grass / rippling water / dust cloud, a * can be found next to the Pokemon. ** Means the grass does not have to rustle to be able to find that Pokemon but are found in the rustling grass / rippling water / dust cloud as well. DG means that Pokemon can only be found in the Darker Grassy Areas. B2 means that Pokemon can only be found in Black 2 Version, W2 for White 2.
Wild Pokemon: Patrat**, Purrloin
Items: Potion
Take a couple steps forward and Bianca will engage in talk. She will head out to the grassy area and show you how to catch a Pokemon. She will successfully catch a Level 2 Purrloin (or at least she did so on my game). After Bianca talks more about catching Pokemon, she will finally leave back into Aspertia City. There is nothing back in Aspertia City unless you want to buy Potions, so continue on Route 19 to Floccesy Town.
Right before you enter Floccesy Town, you will meet Alder - the former Champion of the Unova Elite Four - on the top of a small cliff. He will jump down and ask for your name, and circle around you. Alder says to follow him and he heads off east to Floccesy Town - go that way.
Floccesy Town
Items: Potion
After passing the Center, Alder will tell you to follow him to his house for a "little training". Continue to follow him north. (This would be a good time to remind you to "Save" your game - do so by pressing "A" and touching the "Save" option on the touchscreen. - try to do so every now and then) Before you head north, enter the first house on the right, go to the man on the far right and engage him for a Potion.
Once you find Alder again, he'll ask as to why you are holding two Town Maps. He figures out that the other is for your rival who Alder tells you is training on Route 20 (which is east of here). Alder tells you to head out that way and complete that task first. Head north-then-east out to Route 20 - I advise you to heal your Pokemon at the Center if you have not done so already because you will need them along with a Potion or two.
Route 20
Wild Pokemon: Sunkern, Patrat, Sewaddle, Pidove, Purrloin, Audino*, Dunsparce*, Venipede (DG)
Trainers Pokemon: Youngster (Patrat LV4), Lass (Purrloin LV4), Youngster (Patrat LV4)
Items: Parlyz Heal, Poke Ball (x2 - second one can be found on this visit if the current season is Autumn)
You will have to battle at least two trainers, both are unavoidable, along the path. Pick up the Parlyz Heal along the way which is in plain sight along the one grassy araea patch. Once you reach a fork in the road, head north past the Hiker and go to the left small stone, attempt to engage it and pick up a Poke Ball. Afterward, hang a left (making a right will make the Hiker stop you from advancing any further along Route 20 - he will continue to do so until you get the Basic Badge, which is not until a little later), take the first right and enter the Floccesy Ranch.
Floccesy Ranch
Wild Pokemon: Riolu, Mareep, Azurill, Patrat, Lillipup, Psyduck, Pidove, Audino*, Dunsparce*
Trainers Pokemon: Janitor (Lillipup LV6, Mareep LV6), Youngster (Patrat LV6, Psyduck LV6), Lass (Purrloin LV6, Sewaddle LV6)
Items: Potion (x2), Parlyz Heal, Poke Ball, X Attack, TM21 (Frustration)
Once you hit the Ranch, take a left where the wheelbarrow and hay are at. Hugh will come out and prompt a battle with you.
RIVAL BATTLE 2:
If you choose Snivy: Tepig LV8
If you choose Tepig: Oshawott LV8
If you choose Oshawott: Snivy LV8
Prize Money: 800
At this point, your rival's starter should have learned an element move by now, so it can be tougher. This is where that Potion, should you need it, comes in handy. But not a whole lot different than your first battle. Your starter should defeat Hugh with ease as he has yet to catch another Pokemon. The same tactic should work like last time.
After the battle, Hugh asks why you are here in the first place. You hand over the extra Town Map you have been holding. The conversation is interrupted with the Ranch's Owner and his wife asking you if you just had a battle. The two of you concur that and the Wife hands you and Hugh a Potion. The couple then asks if either of you have seen a Herider around the Ranch. They say one of them split off from the other (who is behind them) and cannot find Herider. Hugh is angered by the fact they were just a little worried but decides he (and you) to help them out and runs off westward. After some more dialogue, you are able to go off and help find the Pokemon. The wife will be able to restore your Pokemon to full health. Do so since you just battled and head where Hugh went.
Head straight and take a left-side U-Turn through the Grassy area to find a Poke Ball in plain sight. Turn around and U back. Take the first turn to the north. Hugh will jump ahead once you do so. Continue northward either through the grass or the clear side, but there is a trainer waiting at the end. At the stairs at the end, Hugh will catch up to you again and hand you a Parlyz Heal, he believes that foul play is involved. Continue eastward.
You will hear a bark after a little bit. Hugh will catch up again and searches the area eastward. Take the Potion sitting in plain view after talking with Hugh. You can see the Herider after taking the Potion to your right along with a guy in a black suit. Head over there.
As you walk up to the two of them, the guy pushes back the Herider. Hugh hears that you found him and fetches the owner. The guy sees you and reveals he is part of Team Plasma - an evil group of people that are up to no good and the main enemy of the game. He'll ask if you ever heard of them. Whatever you answer, he'll toss over TM21 Fustration (TM stands for Technical Machine, a device you can use to teach a Pokemon a move multiple times). The Team Plasma Grunt will run off in retreat. The Ranch owner and Hugh will run up and see that the Herider has been found. Hugh runs off after mad after seeing the owner not nearly worried about his Pokemon being "gone for good." The owner leaves after a little dialogue. Heal your Pokemon up, depart from the Ranch and head back to Floccesy Town.
Floccesy Town
Trainers Pokemon: School Kid(M) (Pansage/Pansear/Panpour LV9), School Kid(F) (Pansear/Pansear/Panpour LV9)
Items: Medal Box, First Step Medal, 6x Hint Medal, X Speed
Once you are back, Alder will stop you and instead of training you since he has seen your Pokemon grow, he wants to be given a hand. Follow him into his house to the northwest. Once you are in, he wants you to battle two school kids. After the first battle, Alder will heal your Pokemon, then have the second battle, then Alder will heal your Pokemon again. Leave Alder's house.
**Note: The first battle is against the monkey element-type that you are strong against depentant on your starter Pokemon choice - since I chose Tepig to start the game, I was up against Pansage, the Grass-type. In the second battle, Panpour - the Water-type - was the opponent for the type disadvantage.
Upon leaving his house, you'll meet Mr. Medal. He'll hand over the Medal Box. He'll ask you if you know what a Medal Rally is. It does not matter the answer as he will explain it to you anyways. Medal Rallies is an event that evaluates various activities of Trainers. By participating, he will hand you the "First Step" Medal along with 6 "Hint" Medals. He will be found inside the Centers around Unova when you have satisfied the conditions for completing other medals, which you can find out inside your Medal Box. He will walk off and Alder will come out and tells you to test out the Gym Leader who has just arrived in your hometown. So go back to Aspertia City.
Route 19
Items: Oran Berry (x5)
As you try to leave Floccesy Town, Alder will stop you the same way he did when you first entered - from the cliff. He'll hand you some Oran Berries (5 to be exact) which when held by a Pokemon will allow the chosen Pokemon to recover 10 Hit Points - or HP - in battle without the need to waste a turn to use the item. It will be used automatically when your Pokemon's HP is in the Yellow or Red. Alder will reiterate about challenging the Gym Leader and then other Gym Leaders and leave. Continue west back to Aspertia City.
Aspertia City
Items: X Defend
Heal up your Pokemon, then head to the Trainers School that was previously blocked off by the boy - this just so happens to also be the location of the Gym. Once inside, head to the classroom and talk to the boy on the right to receive a X Defend. You can also check the chalkboard to see all the different status conditions and what they do (sleep, posioned, burned, etc...). Now head to the back where you can see the familiar Gym logo beside each side of the entrance. When you feel like you are ready, enter. (Note: If you do not think you are ready, train on Route 19 or such until you get to a level you are comfortable with)
Aspertia City Gym
Trainers Pokemon: Youngster (Patrat LV9, Lillipup LV9), Lass (Lillipup LV9, Patrat LV9)
Items: Fresh Water, TM83 (Work Up)
The moment you enter the outdoor Gym, Clyde - your Gym guide - will walk up and hand you a Fresh Water, which is identical to the effects of a Super Potion in which you can recover up to 50 HP of one Pokemon. Fresh Water is typically MUCH cheaper than a Super Potion. The Gym Leader, who later reveals himself as Cheren - the same Cheren that was the other of your two rivals (along with Bianca) in Black and White Versions - will tell you that you must defeat the two Trainers before you earn the right to challenge him. Cheren walks off to take his place at the far end of the gym.
No real logic puzzles for this gym as is typical of a first gym in the games, plain and simple go up to the trainers and take them out. If you need to go back and heal, you can go back to the Pokemon Center and do so before taking on Cheren. When you are ready, go up the steps at the end and challenge Cheren to his first Gym Battle as Gym Leader and your first Gym challenge as a Trainer...
GYM LEADER BATTLE: CHEREN
Patrat - Level 11
Lillipup - Level 13
Prize Money: 1560
The Pokemon themselves are not much different than the ones you battled against the trainers leading up to Cheren, but their levels have significantly improved. Both will use the move Work Up to power their attacks up. If you let them hang around long enough, they will be nearly impossible to stop. Defeat them quickly. If you caught a Riolu at the Ranch earlier, it is a Fighting-Type and those type moves are strong against both Patrat and Lillipup. Cheren will also have a Potion for use to his advantage if one of his Pokemon gets low on HP.
Defeating Cheren will earn you the Basic Badge and TM83 - the Work Up move that was used in battle. Also, all Pokemon up to Level 20 will obey you without question. It is at this point Cheren reveals that Techincal Machines can be used as many times as you want to teach the move (once upon a time, TM's were one and done). Exit the gym and the Trainers School.
Aspertia City
Items: TM27 (Return), C-Gear
As soon as you exit, Bianca will talk to you and find the Basic Badge in your possession. She will hand you TM27 Return as a reward. Cheren than walks out and meets up with Bianca for the first time in two years. Cheren and Bianca will then register you on the Xtransceiver. No sooner than you do so, you will be in a 4-way call with Professor Juniper. All of you talk for a bit then hang up. Bianca will tell you that you can call Juniper anytime to evaluate your Pokedex. Bianca also tells you that you can call her to check the friendliness of your Pokemon. Cheren tells you to call him about Pokemon abilities and type-matchups. Your rival Hugh walks up and challenges Cheren to a Gym Battle. Cheren answers nonchalantly to come into his gym and walks back in. Your rival gets angry about his reply and runs in. Bianca continues to talk to you and gives you the C-Gear. You will be asked if you want to turn this on. The choice is up to you, but if you do turn it on, it will consume the battery much faster. Bianca then explains what the C-Gear does. Bianca continues to advise you to head to Virbank City and challenge its Gym. Heal up and take her advice. Head back out to Route 19 and Floccesy Town.
Floccesy Town
When you get to town, head out through the exit on the other side to Route 20. As you are trying to do so, Bianca will stop you again. She will upgrade your Pokedex to include a Habitat List for each Route and City that you go through that has Wild Pokemon. She will also explain rustling grass to you that a "surprise" will happen (in other words, a Pokemon Battle will ensue with the Wild Pokemon in the rustling grass) Exit stage right as you tried to do before when Bianca leaves.
Head out to Route 20....and to Part 2 of this Walkthrough.
